I'm not even so sure it means that. I think it is okay to read those hallelujahs as TRUE praise, but that God loves MORE than just our praise...that a heart crying out in anguish and turning to Him for help, comfort and in surrender is just as tender and dear to Him.

OK - just looked them up. I think from a quick read that the point of the song is that we don't have to be happy in order to praise God - that sometimes tears of repentance is what is required, more than praises which come from a happy heart.
I suspect there is a misunderstanding by the songwriter (on my read anyway) that you need to be happy in order to sing "hallelujah" to God, or that praises are the result of being blessed by God. Rather than understanding that we can praise God in all circumstances.
But then, I haven't actually heard the song!

Nah, I don't think she even comes close to believing that you need to be "happy" to sing praises. When our hearts are in deep sorrow and anguish, yes deep inside there may be praise without us seeing it, but what we are pouring out to God is all our pain and suffering. It is that very pouring out of our hearts to God that she is writing about. Not the place we come to PASSED that where there is praise in our conscious mind. But that time WHEN WE COME TO HIM AND ARE POURING OUT our deepest pain and torment to God is what He delights in, laying it all open before Him. In our cries to Him, He hears a melody, knowing the end from the beginning and where He is taking us.
