I'm just curious - when are you starting your new school year? Dh and I have not decided yet. Usually he leaves it up to me, but he wants to have some say in it this year.

We are starting on August 2nd. We are taking 6 weeks off from formal studies and doing literature studies when I have the baby.

We kind of have 3 start dates.
July 19--start something, maybe just art. Or typing. Something fun.
August 16--start a lot of "meat & potatoes" subjects like math. Start anything that has a 36 week or more year so we can finish next May.
September 13--First day of a full schedule. My disabled dd doesn't start school until Wednesday Sept. 8 and it takes a day or two to get her going on a normal bus schedule. We really can't do a full schedule while she's home--her care takes a lot of my time.

Honestly, it's so warm here that we can't really be outside, comfortably, *and* we like and need to have a lot of leeway for those unexpected appointments *and* starting early means we (theoretically!) don't feel the panic in the spring of realizing we still need X amount of days to finish before June 30th [our cut off date]. For us, starting early allows for a little more freedom and wiggle room.

We're starting August 9. I'd like to start sooner, but my girls are going to visit a friend for two weeks. They get home August 4, we're going all-day-shopping at the outlet malls August 5, then we'll start school the following Monday. I've only planned 2 weeks off for Christmas/New Years, but I found out today my mom is coming for a 3 week visit so I'm hoping we can get our work done a little early and take the full three weeks off from school.

Well, I'd posted earlier upthread that we were starting 7/19. Lord willing we'll actually, for real, start tomorrow, 8/2 LOL!

We just started, although we generally school all year round. Summer is light, and I am beginning to get "tougher" again on how much we get in per day.
Today was the first day of a new schedule, so it may be trial and error for a while.
