When we moved to this little town 3 1/2 years ago, I was really struggling with feeling alone in this homeschooling journey. You couldn't find any homeschoolers in town, everything revolves around the school system here and their sport of the season, there were no homeschoolers in our church and I just felt weird, out of touch, and, well, alone. I was able to join up with a few families in a town a little bit down the road and have made some great friendships there.

So, just as dh and I were considering moving from here and then it didn't work out to sell our house and we made the decision to stay, God has been opening up amazing doors in our little town. Last week I received an email from a woman in our church who wanted to speak with me about homeschooling and had a ton of questions. They are going to start this fall. She came over and looked through the curriculum I use and is so excited; her family is wonderful. Then yesterday at our church picnic I found out that two other families in our church are homeschooling and are wanting to hook up with my little group. They have been feeling the same way that I was and looking for support and there just hasn't been any in our area. I've also been stopped in the hall at church by another woman asking about homeschooling.

The point to all this other than my obvious excitement is that I think I know why God has us staying here! Wink Very Happy

Jamie,
I totally understand. I am also living in a small Texas town and people here think I am crazy to be homeschooling. EVERYTHING is about the schools and sports here. I am not aware of any homeschoolers in my own town, but I am blessed to be part of a church (25 miles away) that has many homeschoolers. The actual homeschooling group is in a town 33 miles away, so we are unable to do the weekly activities, but we still feel better knowing others are homeschooling in the area. I am still trying to move back home, but we haven't had much interest in the house so far, and I am trying to be patient and content while we are here.

ETA: I am so excited for you. God is so good!!!!!!

Jamie, I am so glad God has opened doors of opportunity up for you! This is wonderful news.
This gives me hope. I feel very alone and out of touch with everyone else. Here in my little area, we are the only homeschool family and like your town, everything revolves around the public school & sports.

A Homeschooler's Checklist ... Public schools are in session again in our hometown and even though we homeschool year-round in a relaxed style, our children have been motivated to create a new fall schedule and get ready for another homeschool year.
