I have almost all subjects finalized for this next school year, but am struggling on what to do for Language/English!! If I add up all the "pieces" such as spelling, grammar, vocab, and reading, I will end up spending much more than I planned to!! There are some great programs I have found for each one of these, but just wish I could find one curriculum to cover it all!! It's possible I could cover the reading in the history I have chosen (Mystery of History), as I believe there are suggested reading selections ... but what about spelling, grammar and vocab?
Do you have any suggestions or can you share with me what you have done in the past for Language/English?
Thank you!

Mine are not all together, and I am not sure what age level you are looking for, but my favorites are:
First Language Lessons, we are on level 4 (which is sufficient for my dd since she has language arts learning issues). We have used this since level 1 and it is gentle but I feel through.
AVKO sequential spelling (on DVD now, which frees me up some to deal with ds and is not very expensive) I have tried every spelling program around. I really liked All About Spelling also, but we needed a change this year, due to time issues.
Reading has always been an issue for dd so we listen to lots and lots of books on cd from the library. Some are classics, some are history related, some are just for fun.
Vocabulary we deal with at this time, just by talking about the stories and words she does not know. She also follows her brothers list of Greek and Latin roots, because they are on the dry erase board and she just seems to remember them.
Hope this helps.

We loved Mystery of History with readers added in. We didn't do a formal vocabulary program til Vocabulary Vine in 8th grade - they absorbed tons of vocabulary from our readings. If you don't want to purchase something, you could just choose vocabulary and even spelling words from the readings.
I'm also guessing you could google "6th grade spelling lists" and find something to use.
I hope you enjoy MOH as much as we did.
Blessings,
Elise

Pam, we always read the lessons together. Not because we needed to, but because history was something I did together with both dc. It helped me keep up with what they were doing and enabled us to have good discussions. We all felt the author did a great job telling the stories of history. I'm sure they could have done the readings on their own, but we just liked reading them together.
Blessings,
Elise

How about Christian Light English? I know it is grammar, writing, and spelling (and I think vocab) all in one program.
We are using R&S for Grammar, Spelling Wisdom for spelling, and books from 1000 Good Books list. We do not do a separate vocabulary program.
Mommy to 1 darling son and five sweet and sassy daughters.
