We use Mystery of History; my kids love it. I used ABeka history for a while with my ds, but by 6th grade, he was wanting something more interesting. If you'd like to read more about it, here is a link. We will be starting Mystery of History Vol. II this year.
You read a lesson, and then there are age appropriate activities. MOH markets this to 4th-8th graders, but my dd was doing it right along with us in 2nd grade. She'll be entering 4th this September.
There are LOTS of good history resources out there for homeschoolers; just on this board alone, there are many different history resources that are used, so I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions.

We used Tapestry of Grace until this past year. I was really sad to let TOG go, but it wouldn't work for us in highschool. (Many families make it work, but I couldn't.) Now we're using Notgrass, which we love as well.

My favorite history years were Mystery of History with Sonlight readers and read alouds. Unfortunately we had to use something else after the first two editions for dd to finish world and American history by 12th grade. We used Notgrass last year to finish World History and it was OK but all three of us preferred MOH (which was easy to make work for high school).
This year for American History we are using Bill Bennett's America: The Last Best Hope as a text and the online resources that go with it. We'll do American Literature, too since I prefer history and literature to complement one another.
Blessings,
Elise

We love My Father's World.

MFW is unit study, with lesson plans all written out for you. They are just the right amount, not too much, and not too little. They use a variety of different text including Story of the World, Usborne books, and great read a'louds that go wtih the units. They teach in chronological form. You can use it with 2nd through 8th. It includes Science as well and it is all based on Charolotte Mason/ Classical Philosophy of teaching.

We are using Lessons From History. I'm pretty excited about it! Even though it's supposed to be through 8th grade, I think it can be used through highschool. It would seem to me just a matter of choosing age appropriate books and projects.
